Prerequisite
Residents wishing to enter the Medical Oncology Program must have
completed 3 years of core training in Internal Medicine (RCPSC
approved).
Program
Outline
The Department of Oncology at the University of Calgary is one
of very few training programs to offer subspecialty training in
Medical Oncology, Radiation Oncology, Surgical Oncology, Gynecologic
Oncology, Palliative Medicine and Psychosocial Oncology in Canada,
thereby allowing a comprehensive multidisciplinary approach to
oncology. The Medical Oncology training program at the University
of Calgary offers Residents the opportunity to train in one of
the best centres in Canada. With a large staff: learner ratio,
Residents gain vast experience clinically, but are also exposed
to a diverse range of research interests.
The
Medical Oncology core curriculum program is perhaps one of the
best in the country. The twice weekly sessions are attended by
members of all Oncology training programs and offer a multidisciplinary
approach to the teaching around cancer. In addition; each winter/spring
a joint molecular cancer biology/clinical trail course is offered.
Five months of elective time is available to actively pursue selected
areas of interest, including research.
Research
The Southern Alberta Cancer Research Center offers an outstanding
opportunity to be involved in basic and translational research.
Selection
Criteria
Three to four residents are accepted into the program each year.
Applications for training must be received by June 30 of the year
prior to commencement of training. The following are required
