EDUCATION OPPORTUNITIES
The
Department of Psychosocial Resources, within the Division of Psychosocial
Oncology at the University
of Calgary,
offers an excellent environment for clinical training in Psychosocial
Oncology. Educational opportunities exist for Social Work Practicums,
Clinical Social Work Practicums, Pre-doctoral
Clinical Psychology Internships, opportunities for Psychiatry
Residents as well as Pre and Post Doctoral Research Studentships.
We offer the only accredited clinical training program (CPA) offered
in Canada.
Social Work
Practicum
Social work practicum for B.S.W. students include resource counseling opportunities
with individuals, couples, families and groups as well as coordination
of the Annual Holiday Hamper Program. Each practicum is designed
to meet the unique interest and learning needs of each student.

Psychosocial
Oncology Course (MDSC 635)
MDSC
635 was the first graduate level university course in Psychosocial
Oncology in Canada. The course
provides healthcare practitioners with the opportunity to enhance
their clinical skills and develop their knowledge in central concepts
related to caring for individuals diagnosed with cancer and their
families.

Pre-doctoral
Clinical Psychology Internship
A
Pre-doctoral Clinical Psychology internship is offered in collaboration
with the Calgary Consortium in Clinical Psychology Pre-doctoral
Internship Program. The Program is designed to provide advanced
training in the application of psychological principles and skills
in accordance with accreditation criteria of the Canadian Psychological
Association. It prepares the intern for his or her professional
role through the integration of graduate education, psychological
theory and professional skills.

Opportunities for Psychiatry

couples, families and groups. Each elective is designed to meet
the unique interest and learning needs of each student.

Undergraduate, Graduate, Pre and Post Doctoral Research Studentships
There is also a variety
of opportunities for honours, graduate,
doctorate and post-doctorate students from Faculty of Social Sciences
and other faculties to contribute to several research projects
in Psychosocial Oncology. In the past, several graduate, doctorate
and post-doctorate students were supported by national funding
from NCIC, CIHR and AHFMR. Under special circumstances we also
entertain proposals from visiting scholars and international students.
